Comment: ACTUAL JAPANESE FOOD!! I like American-style sushi, but when I want authentic Japanese cuisine, I go here.Update for new location: the omakase was amazing! I love the new vibe, how open and bright the dining space is, the service was great, the food was literally the best seafood Ive had in Missouri, and the plating was beautiful. Its literally only 3 people in the kitchen--the Nobu family--so reservations are necessary. Plan ahead and you will be rewarded with the best Japanese food in the city.

Comment: Nobus transformation from a sushi restaurant to an omakase-style dining experience is quite remarkable. The interior design is stunning with its coastal charm blended seamlessly with a traditional Japanese aesthetic. The tasting menu is exceptional, showcasing the finest quality fish and precise cuts that left me satisfyingly full—a rarity in my omakase experiences. However, a word of caution about the steep alcohol prices; even a standard Sapporo comes with a hefty tag. An incident worth mentioning involved a wine recommendation—a Chardonnay priced at $25 per glass on the menu that turned out to be $50 when the bill arrived, due to an outdated menu. This oversight led to an uncomfortable end to an otherwise delightful meal. Nonetheless, for those in St. Louis seeking sushi that surpasses the ordinary, Nobus is a destination that promises to deliver.

Comment: Went there with my sister, who works there, best meal experience ever! It was so much fun! The server timed the plates such that we didnt lose focus on the food trip we went on, of which every plate was fantastic, luxurious, authentic. I got a cold sake on the side to sip on between bites, perfect for the meal. I will keep going back for sure.

Comment: Dined in at the sushi bar for the six course omakase dinner. All of the food was meticulously prepared and the fish was incredibly fresh and high quality. Everyone there was friendly and attentive and were excited to share stories about the dishes, their family, and Japan. Some big highlights from the dinner were the grilled black cod (a real showstopper), the eel (a personal favorite), and the various fish in the mustard sauce. Everything paired well with their interesting selection of sakes and Japanese wine. My only minor complaint is some dishes were a little heavy on the wasabi, which was often nicely grated fresh right before serving. The six-course feast is an expensive meal but it is certainly a worthwhile and unique experience and so far the best sushi I have had in St Louis.

Comment: What a special treat to STL! I tried things that I would not normally gravitate to and every course was outstanding. If you like sushi at all, you’re in for an elevated treat here! The family environment is also extraordinary and refreshing. I would have taken photos of the dishes but I was too consumed in the experience to take me phone out. 10 stars.

Comment: Nobu’s menu and the experience provided by it is the intersection of art and sustenance. It is a demonstration of a precision in food not common in our city. The hefty price tag is the result of a small space serving a limited number of seats a product that does not exist in this region. The sea urchin was like consuming a cloud made of the ocean. The various cuts of tuna, mackerel, skipjack, and snapper were at the perfect temperature, each carefully dressed with the appropriate amounts of wasabi, plum, or soy sauce. This is quality over quantity. Experience it at least once.

Comment: This restaurant used to exist in the same location as Nobus Japanese Restaurant, and any review from before 2022 is in reference to a different place and concept, although run by the same Chef Nobu. Nobus, in its current state, is an incredibly intimate omakase dining experience with superb flavor combinations and rare Japanese ingredients served in a space made to feel like Chef Nobus private home. Its airy and elegant, and there are roughly 8 omakase bar seats with around 10 more at tables for larger groups. Reservations are likely required, although the host expressed they would be looking into how to deliver a more casual experience in 2023. Well worth the fine-dining cost for a special occasion.

Comment: A little late in writing a review but here we are. I have been eating at Nobus since 2007 and my husband has been dining there even longer. We were so sad when the original location was closed and looked forward to his new venture. It seemed like the time would never come. Then an update, with a soft opening! We booked almost immediately. To say that Nobus has changed would be an understatement. Its almost like Nobus has grown as a restaurant as we have as people. The interior design is beautiful and simple. The service was top notch. The food was phenomenal. Nobu found out that my husbands favorite item from the original restaurant was the spicy tuna, so he made one just for him. Nobus son (I cant remember his name right now) was a great host and we had a nice chat with him. Nobus is more upscale now so the price is also more upscale but totally worth it for a enjoyable evening out.

Comment: We thoroughly enjoyed the “omikase” tasting menu. We are so glad Nobu’s is back in a smaller, more focused and intimate setting. Everything is done with great intention from the restaurant design to the dishes and service and of course the food. It was outstanding on every level. As serious “foodies” we can say with confidence this was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. We look forward to coming back!

Comment: Welcome to Nobus- may your mind and palate be transformed into a world of absolute harmony.I am in absolute awe of this place. I LOVE that Nobu works in synchronicity with his family (wife and son) to bring traditional Japanese cuisine to STL.The minimalist and clean of the space design allows for all of the focus to be on the service, the dishes, the utensils/ dishware, and of course the ingredients themselves.I have had two different tasting course experiences here. Both of which are transformative. The overall understanding and balance of the senses and tasting notes is remarkable. Some dishes warm, some cool, some are digestive, some are crisp and all are nourishing. Nobus understanding of texture, umami, sweet, sour, salty, pungent, and bitter is heavily highlighted throughout the tasting menu.Local ingredients are utilized when possible and even items like Sake are distinctly picked from Nobus hometown. The thought and intention is evident from beginning to end.The price point may be high for some but even though the dishes are served as chef tasting potions, I have never once left hungry. This is because of the aforementioned balancing act that allows for a completely satisfied palate and stomach. If you go in for an à la carte meal then be sure to try anything in the miso mustard sauce and the chawanmushi.Thank you for having us Nobu staff and family!

We are grateful for this opportunity to enjoy a true master in his own element and cannot wait to return. You can tell that providing this experience is what makes Chef Nobu happy! Thank you!!

Comment: Cozy and modern restaurant. We had their set menu dinner and sat at a table. We were the only table at the time but dinner picked up at the bar. The entire staff consisted of 4 people - the family; they were Japanese polite. All sushi was very fresh and I usually don’t eat raw fish. Cooked entrees were balanced in flavor. House made matcha dessert and red bean is a must!

Comment: High quality omakaze dining experience where you let the chef decide what dishes are best served. The Kidera family has always been awesome and their new restaurant raises the bar so high. Each dish is an incredible experience, made even better as they take the time to explain its origins, ingredients, and how each is prepared. This is, hands down, the finest meal I have ever experienced. We will definitely do this again.

Comment: My Lord, I have never left a Google review before but I cannot neglect to express how absolutely earth-shattering this experience was. Not only is it so warm and intimate that it literally feels like a family dinner, but the food itself I can only possibly compare to the place my rich aunt took me to in Los Angeles. And it exceeds that by miles. The creativity, the attention to detail, the atmosphere; everything has been done flawlessly. In a strange way, it also is a celebration of the city itself; what they’ve managed to accomplish here could not be effectively or sustainably replicated in Chicago, New York, or any larger city. It wouldn’t be nearly as calming and personalized. I’m not even particularly attached to living in St. Louis, but truly, if I ever left, this is one place I would dearly miss.

Comment: Ive been to Nobu several times and everytime I was left completely satisfied. Im been to many different sushi restaurants all over STL county area and Nobus is by far my favorite, the best place to go to get sushi. Everytime Ive have sushi here the fish has been fresh, tastes amazing, and absolutely no fishy taste at all (I absolutely cannot stand even a little bit of fishy smell or taste and Ive never had a problem here). The rice bowls and ramens are out of this world. The customer service is great as well, the employees are very happy and attentive, the chef is also really nice. Well worth the price and the most authentic Japanese food around.

Comment: My brain shut down at a menu for the first time in a long time at Nobus. Massive selection, incredible presentation, low-key and not painfully trendy. Slick, quiet, and clean - everything Im looking for. The wasabi is legit, watch out for the cold tofu - its got an exceptionally good hot kick. Delicious ginger. Fantastic green tea for only two bucks. I had some fantastic real crab-based rolls. Seaweed salad also wonderful. Cant believe I only dropped $40 for two. Highly recommended.

Comment: The food was excellent, mainly once I loaded up on the soy sauce, it took awhile to get used to eating with chopsticks but once you do it really has an authentic Japanese feel to the food and place in general. I left satisfied and the prices were reasonable too, you can get a filling meal for 15 bucks and I eat more than most!

Comment: Nobus is probably one of the best kept secrets in the St. Louis area. They offer traditional Japanese sushi, sashimi, and other menu items. The owner, who is the chef, is from Japan. Fish is flown in fresh from Japan several times a week to prepare some of the best sushi and sashimi available. The food is made fresh to order so there is a little bit of a wait as expected, but it is not excessive. The quality of the food is worth waiting for! The service and customer care are excellent and very clean. Restaurant seating includes both tables and sushi bar. The restaurant is decorated in a casual sushi restaurant fashion and is very welcoming for a date or a family dinner. Prices are commensurate for the area and are very reasonable for the high quality of the food, attention to detail and preparation, and attention to diners needs received. I personally live about 250 miles from St. Louis and try to eat at Nobus every time I visit the city either for a sit down dinner or placing an order for take out.

Comment: Sushi was definitely fresh and well made. This place seemed like a more traditional sushi restaurant without the jumbo fried cream cheese filled rolls that are often what I crave. If you want something lighter/fresher this is definitely the place for you! Downsides for me is that the prices were a little higher than other places Ive been and the rolls were on the smaller side. Service was also on the slow side. It does have a really convenient parking lot. Personally Id rather go to Kampai.

Comment: After much research Nobu is the place we chose to spend our anniversary. It felt like we were taking a risk. The risk was well worth it. From the moment we walked in we were greeted kindly. We asked for a seat at the bar and there we met one of Nobus great chefs, Mike. Our waiter Casper was the most knowledgeable and caring server. The food we experienced at Nobu was unrivaled in Missouri. We had wonderful specialty fish expertly prepared. Mike explained to us their fish and many of their practices in processing and preparing. We are so fortunate to have a restaurant that focuses on quality in the way Nobu does. We will be back many more times. Take the risk and see how great sushi can be.

Comment: While the decor is a bit dated (none of the chairs seem to match), the sushi here is on point - my favorite sushi restaurant in St. Louis. I prefer simple rolls with high-quality raw fish rather than the tempura or mayo-covered rolls offered at more popular local sushi spots, and Nobu really delivers on great basics. Theyve altered the menu a bit, not for the better, but still offer the same basic rolls if you know to ask!

Comment: My wife and I recently had dinner at Nobus. We both had sashimi and it was exquisite especially the Toro which absolutely melted in our mouths. We have been eating at Nobus since he took over the location that had been a Steak & Egg Kitchen on Delmar in the later 1980s and have never had a bad experience there. Over the years we have tried a number of different sushi restaurants but always end up back at Nobus.

Comment: Nobus stands out above the rest. Something like a Philly roll from other places is transformed at nobus. Even a basic tuna roll can be order on the spicy side and will come out with a little bit of extra kick to it with a little radish, spicy sauce and mayo. Also the dragon roll is amazing for something that is cooked but has an awesome taste that even someone eating sushi for the first time or the 100th time can appreciate.

Comment: Glad to have this gem in St. Louis. Consistent, exceptionally fresh food, pride taken in everything that comes out of the kitchen. Being big sushi lovers, we didnt stop eating it when we had kids and this place is welcoming for families and date night. We recently did omekase and it was delicious and worth every penny. Its definitely for someone who wants a traditional Japanese experience but it has plenty of options for spend who wants popular rolls too. Chef nobu, his staff and his wife are gracious hosts every time.

They were incredibly accommodating and (working with the chef) we were able to find specific items to complete a very nice meal. They never put up a fuss and never said no to any suggestion - including special preparation instructions. Kudos to the staff - they were tipped well by this happy customer.

Comment: Ordered Omakase @ 40 Nigiri. Was questioned a couple times about whether I wanted salad, miso, anything else. I said maki would be fine with me but whatever the chef wanted to serve was fine by me. I ended up receiving nigiri only (which was perfectly fine), a nice selection, expertly prepared, and including uni and toro. I had uni once before and planned to never order it again. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasnt too funky, and the texture was not quite so unappealing as it had been to me the first time I had it, many moons ago. Everything was quite delicious.
