Comment: The food at Robata is fantastic —honestly some of the best food in STL. I always forget to eat here and then I do and am always so happy. Last night I had the age dashi tofu and it was complex and beautiful and crispy and light and everything I wanted a bite of food to be. We also ordered some sushi rolls and I was delighted with the 7 samurais and the STL roll. We also ordered the lobster roll and the lobster was unfortunately slightly overcooked but that was the only complaint with the entire meal. It’s a small space but we sat at the street side bar and got to do a little people watching while we ate. Delightful, delightful experience!

Comment: This is one of my favorite Stl sushi spots. I love the vibe of the interior and also love sitting on the patio. It’s purposefully redesigned from a fast food place which is funky and interesting. Ultimately the sushi is just so good that we usually end up grabbing takeout out but it’s a great place for a casual date night or for dinner with friends.

Comment: The only place in town that has onigiri (rice balls)! I love their baked salmon onigiri, pork gyoza, and Tonkotsu ramen.They serve ramen, sushi, many authentic Japanese dishes and they have a ton of fun and creative appetizers. They have a sake happy hour special each week and Monday nights they serve $8 ramen (dine-in only). You get a choice of 3 of their different ramens to choose from: Tori (chicken broth) Tonkotsu (pork broth), and a vegetarian option.Its a small cafe with a few half booth/half chair tables, some bar seats and plenty of outdoor tables. They are currently only open at night around 5pm onwards; no lunch service. They have a parking lot, so no off-street parking necessary.I highly recommend them! They also have takeout, but currently arent using any services. You have to go there to pick up. One Piece is usually always on at the bar while you wait.

Comment: This is an amazing local restaurant. We have been coming here for several years to eat. The soup is one of my favorites and they serve very good Sushi as well. The sweet potato roll is delicious. My son always orders the crispy crab roll. Its a small intimate restaurant where you can get to know the owner and staff since they have all been there for a long time. Really enjoyed every visit we have made. Thank you for being awesome!!!!

The tonkotsu is rich enough to pay for your night out, and cradles your mouth in silk. It wrote me a love letter I cherish to this day. Ordering a la carte sushi is fine, but the chirashi is where its at. Pair with a tall asahi or sapporo reserve.

I have been here twice, and the Tonkotsu ramen is the best. The Tori soup was ok, but I expected more flavor from it. The soup was clear. The Tonkotsu is just the right amount of oily, but could also pack just a bit more umami in there and I would give it 5 stars. The sushi is not half bad either! Ive lived in Japan for many years, so I know ramen. This Tonkotsu isnt up to Japanese homeland level, but its darn close. Way better than instant ramen, and not as expensive as luxury ramen at other shops. Its a bit dimly lit and small, but some people like that atmosphere, so its not a negative. Kelly, our waitress, was informative and kind. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for ramen, and the prices are not exorbitant for most things on the menu. The menu is so vast, I wonder if they could trim their menu down a bit and focus on a few things while bringing down their price point. Service was not fast or slow - average speed. The food came out very quick which is expected at a ramen shop. Keep up the good work!

Comment: Very cozy place in a former fast food location. Enormous sushi menu with lots of variety, value, and some surprises. Huge portions of miso soup. Any party larger than 2 has the potential for a long wait, but the style, quality, and price for the food is worth it if youre craving Japanese in Maplewood.

Only down side is it is very small so there isnt a lot of personal space and once it fills up you have to wait a long time. But other that I would suggest this place for someone who wants to try something new.

Comment: Great flavor and service. I sat at the bar and was served by someone that seemed to be the owner. I asked him to tell me what his favorite items are. He marked them off and I tried a few of them and did not regret it.Quick service, good flavors, fish was cut well, rolls were a good size. Everything was priced well.

Comment: So. I am a fan of sushi. At least, I thought I was. I found out at Robata what kind of sushi Ive been missing. Great quality, at a great price, with really nice atmosphere (if a little cozy), and fantastic service to cap it all off. My wife also had Bar B Que Don, which was also phenomenal. To recognize our server in particular, Emily was very helpful and a pleasure to have. Currently counting the days until we go back.

Comment: Excellent service and a good place for peiple new to ramen and sushi. I recommend the chicken broth ramen for newbies as the pork is rich with fat and will sit heavy. Expect a wait to be seated as it is a very small establishment since its inside an old fast food place.

Comment: There was a nice variety of food options. We had a ramen bowl with pork based broth Shia style adding in spinach and it was very tasty. We also had a beef yakitori skewer which was good and the Japanese fried chicken with rice flavored with teriyaki. I also had a couple pieces of sushi which were delicious. Needless to say we left with our bellies overstuffed and we still had plenty to take home for leftovers. Best part was the price was very reasonable. My only complaint was that the service was a bit slow but they are a smaller restaurant and I cant fault them for being busy since myself and others likely will keep coming back for a great meal.

Comment: I found Sekisui. I found Sekisui. So, I had been eyeing this place for some time because theyre always busy when I drive by. Decided to eat there for dinner one night and was surprised at how small it is inside. So just prepare to be close because the food is worth it. While talking to my helpful server, he told us that the owners were the same owners of Sekisui from Grand and Arsenal that closed down. Sekisui was my go to sushi spot in STL.Back to my review, the place is small but the food is delicious. They have sushi as well as seaweed salad and chicken katsu. Everything is fresh and the ramen wont disappoint.

The fish is always fresh, but the vegetarian rolls (especially the sweet potato) are a delicious, welcome change from the usual sushi. The ramen is fantastic, and for $8-$10, a great price for a huge meal.

Comment: Very small restaurant. Not many tables available for costumers. Staff is very nice and friendly. Perfect for a Cold night out. Heat was blasting inside the restaurant with poor ventilation, this made the windows very foggy and unpleasent to sit next to. Aromas from the kitchen filled up the whole restaurant.Ordered pork broth, salt and pepper Ramen. The broth is very rich, creamy, and flavorful, but after a while it gets overwhelming and this makes it hard to finish. Noodles were saugey, bland, and all around werent that great, which was disappointing. Overall, the ramen is decent and I would like to try some of the other broth flavors such as their Miso broth, along with others offered, possibly with a different style of noodle.Worth giving a try, will be back to try again. Especially with such a large variety from other soups, a huge selection of sushi, and delicious Japanese bbq. (We ordered pork belly *delicious*, quail egg, and homemade chicken meatballs, all served in a kabob style.)

Ive spoken with the owner once and learned some great fun facts about the place. Robata wont disappoint. I can only hope they relocate to a bigger place in a few years.
